ABOUT TEN Risk Management

Damian TaylorFRGS FCMI Managing Director

Damian’s experience of security and risk management spans some thirty years of both practical implementation and strategic risk management consulting in over 50 countries. He has first-hand proven experience of supporting clients through crises ranging back to the Pan Am 103 Lockerbie bombing in 1989, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the full Arab Spring uprising in 2011 through to the  Nepalese earthquake in 2015.

 

After 30 years of security risk management experience gained in the British Army, 10 years planning and leading remote expeditions through Asia, Africa and Central America, and a further 10 years with two of the world's leading business risk and security assistance companies, Damian established TEN Risk Management to provide innovative and practical risk management solutions to organizations wishing to ensure the correct levels of Duty of Care are provided to their international assignees and travelers.

 

Whilst with Control Risks he travelled extensively to countries as varied as Afghanistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Kenya, Libya, East Timor, Nigeria and New Orleans as Control Risks lead consultant in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

 

In 2009 Damian was appointed Regional Security Director EMEA for the newly formed Joint Venture between International SOS and Control Risks, with responsibility for the operational delivery of security risk management consulting, training and emergency assistance services to Control Risks and International SOS members within the region. In this role, as well as being the regional lead Subject Matter Expert on Travel Risk Management, he co-coordinated the security evacuations for multiple clients over the period of the “Arab Spring” deploying and running the Incident Management Teams in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria and the successful response to the Nairobi Westgate Mall terrorist incident and the initial response to the situation in Ukraine.

 

Damian’s last role with Control Risks and International SOS was as Global Head of Security Assistance where he was responsible for the operational oversight and delivery of all travel security risk management and security assistance services. In addition to his responsibility for the upkeep of security assistance operational policies, planning and procedures, he also oversaw the company’s responses to the crises in Libya, Vanuatu, Yemen, Burundi, Burkina Faso and Nepal.

 

Damian is a graduate with a BA in English and Philosophy.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He is an experienced public speaker and is widely regarded as a global subject matter expert in Travel Risk Management. He speaks colloquial French, Indonesian and Malay and enjoys remote travel and expeditions.
